The person behind the Connecting Communities directory, and why it exists.
Hi, I'm Salman. I believe a community is only as strong as the connections we build between one another. Growing up in the Lamorinda area, I've been lucky to see firsthand how neighbors show up for neighbors — and this site started with a simple goal: to make local service easier to find, easier to trust, and rooted in real connection.
My volunteer journey began because I wanted to understand the everyday needs of our community across Orinda, Lafayette, and Moraga. Along the way, I've gotten to work alongside some of the most dedicated grassroots organizations in the East Bay — from packing meals for unsheltered neighbors and helping out with adaptive sports programs, to spending quiet, meaningful afternoons keeping local seniors company.
Every hour I've spent volunteering has taught me that real impact isn't just about checking off a task — it's about listening, learning, and closing the distance between us. Whether it's supporting pediatric healthcare, protecting the trails and creeks around us, or making sure a kid has what they need for their first day of school, every effort ripples outward.
Building a stronger community takes all of us. I put this site together to help you find your own way in — whatever your background, whatever skills you bring, however much time you have. There's a local organization right here in our backyard that could use your help. Let's make Lamorinda a little more connected, together.
